Mica Moore’s story stretches across borders and generations. Her grandfather, Venson Byfield, arrived in the UK as part of the Windrush generation and made his home in Wales, where Moore would later begin her own sporting path.
She first rose through athletics, earning the chance to represent Wales at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, before taking a bold turn into bobsleigh. That switch opened new doors but also brought difficult moments. In 2022, Mica Moore stepped away from the British winter sports programme after raising concerns about behaviour she described as harmful and unacceptable.
What followed was a three-year absence from the ice, a period that tested her resolve. In January 2025, she returned to competition, this time racing for Jamaica at the Europe Cup in Lillehammer. The comeback carried deep personal meaning, built on perseverance through pain, fatigue, resistance, and even moments of joy.
Now, Moore is part of a Jamaican bobsleigh revival that continues to capture attention decades after the team’s rise to fame in Cool Runnings. Jamaica will send two additional crews to the Milan–Cortina Games, qualifying for both the four-man and two-man events.
The XXV Winter Olympic Games take place in northern Italy from Friday, 6 February to Sunday, 22 February.
