The pandemic has yet again caused another setback in the entertainment industry.

The Fugees, who shared plans for their anniversary tour last September, announced today (January 21), that they are cancelling the eagerly awaited 12-city ‘The Score’ tour.

Announcing the cancellation via social media, the trio, consisting of Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, said in a statement: “We anticipate and understand disappointment but our anniversary tour will not be able to happen. The continued COVID pandemic has made touring conditions difficult, and we want to make sure we keep our fans and ourselves healthy and safe.”

It continued: “An idea sparked to honor and celebrate this 25th anniversary of The Score, but we see now it may not currently be our time for revisiting this past work. We’re grateful for the special night we did get to share with some of you in New York, with that rare live moment.”

They went on to note that if the opportunity allowed, they would revisit the idea of the tour some time soon, thanking fans for their continued support.

‘The Score’ tour, which would have celebrated the 25th anniversary of their 1996 album of the same name, was originally slated to begin on November 2 last year. However, shortly after the initial announcement, The Fugees released a statement which shared that they would instead push the dates to early 2022.

“Dates for our upcoming Fugees 25th Anniversary Tour are moving to early 2022 to ensure the best chance that all cities on the tour will be fully open so we can perform for as many fans as possible,” the group had said at that time.

Instead of postponing the tour again, this time around it has been canceled altogether.

Some fans were quick to attack and cast blame for the cancellation of the concert on Hill, who has had a rocky relationship with the rest of the group and stirred controversy in the past.

According to @brookylynroccity: “There’s a better chance of a new variant showing up than Lauren (Lauryn).”

Others expressed their frustration at not being able to get a refund for their tickets.

Last September, the Fugees reunited for their first show in 15 years, playing a pop-up show in New York City at Pier 17 in support of Global Citizen Live.
