The funeral service for former Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) player, Simon Ann-Marie Edwards is set to take place today (March 15) at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium at the University of Technology (UTech) campus in Kingston.

The service begins at 10:00 am.

Edwards, described as the ‘Jamaican Hurricane’, passed away on February 16 at her Florida home after battling stage-three ovarian cancer for some time.

She was the first Jamaican player in the WNBA, where she played for the New York Liberty and the Seattle Storm.

The government of Jamaica bestowed membership in the Order of Distinction on the 49-year-old basketball player in 2017, in recognition of her outstanding athleticism and important service to Jamaica in her field.
