A group of frustrated prospective homeowners staged a protest on Sunday outside the Hellshire View housing development in Portmore, St Catherine.
The group says they have already paid deposits for homes in the development but are still waiting for their units to be completed. They are demanding answers from the Housing Agency of Jamaica Limited (HAJ), the government body responsible for the project.
Protesters say multiple promised completion dates have come and gone, and they can no longer wait indefinitely.
The Hellshire View development, located on Shooters Hill along the Hellshire Main Road, is a partnership between the HAJ and Rite Solutions Developers Limited. Construction was scheduled to begin in 2022, with two-bedroom detached units initially priced at $17.2 million. However, the homes remain incomplete—missing roofs, windows, and doors.
According to the group, they recently received an email update from the HAJ, which they described as a “slap in the face,” stating that it failed to provide any meaningful update or timeline for completion.
The protesters are now calling on Prime Minister Andrew Holness to intervene directly in the matter.
