The young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Generation 2000 (G2K) is calling for the immediate resignation of Errol Bascoe as prinicipal of the Tacky High School.

This follows allegations levelled against the principal of sexually assualting male at his home on Thursday, February 29. He has been formally charged with buggery.

Bascoe, who is also the People’s National Party (PNP) provisional MP candidate for Western St Mary, has since resigned from his current role in the party.

G2K is now urging Bascoe to tender his resignation as prinicipal of the institution.

“It is deeply troubling that Mr Bascoe, while prioritising the reputation of the PNP, has failed to extend the same level of concern for the reputation and well-being of Tacky High School, the educational institution he serves as principal. As guardians of the interests of students and the community, school administrators must uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability in education,” the JLP-affiliate said.

President of G2K, Shayne Kerr, has condemned Bascoe’s absolute disregard for his duty to protect the school and prioritise its reputation before his partisan interests.

“It is unacceptable for Mr Bascoe to prioritise the reputation of the PNP over the noble institution of Tacky High School. As principal, his primary responsibility is to ensure the well-being and reputation of the school and its students. His failure to do so is deeply concerning and begs to question of his suitability to lead,” Kerr argued.

He added that the Bascoe’s actions demonstrate a clear lack of judgement and integrity. G2K further urged Bascoe to recognise the potential risk that his continued tenure as principal poses to Tacky High School and its community during this time.

According to reports from the Port Maria police about 11 p.m., the complainant visited a friend who was staying at Bascoe’s premises.

Upon Bascoe’s return, he spoke briefly to the complainant before he sexually assaulted him. A report was made to the police, who commenced an investigation.

Bascoe was subsequently arrested and charged. He is schedule to appear before the St Mary Parish Court on Thursday, March 14.
