The GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sport (GCFC) has partnered with the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) for an exciting Business of Sport Pitch Series Competition.
The top three winners will share up to J$1,000,000.
The initiative is designed to identify, develop, and fund innovative sport business ideas emerging from the student community.
The competition, which will culminate in a live grand finale on April 28, aims to foster entrepreneurship within the sports sector while equipping students with the tools, mentorship, and exposure needed to transform ideas into viable enterprises.
The Business of Sport Pitch Series will be executed over three competitive rounds, beginning with idea submissions and progressing through structured mentorship and pitch development sessions. Shortlisted participants will advance to semi-final presentations before a panel of industry experts, with the top individual/teams earning a place in the highly anticipated final.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment by GCFC and DBJ to strengthen Jamaica’s sport ecosystem by investing in youth innovation, business development, and capacity building. The initiative also aligns with national priorities to expand entrepreneurship and create sustainable economic opportunities within the sports industry.
“Sport continues to be a powerful driver of economic growth and social development. Through this partnership, we are creating a platform for students to think innovatively about sport as a business and to bring forward solutions that can shape the future of the industry,” said programme coordinator Janiel Smith.
The Development Bank of Jamaica emphasised the importance of supporting early-stage ventures: “Entrepreneurship is critical to national development. By supporting initiatives like the Sports Pitch Series, we are helping to unlock the potential of young Jamaicans and encouraging innovation in key growth sectors such as sport,” says Deidre-Ann Burrell, programme execution officer.
Participants in the programme will benefit from:
- Expert-led mentorship
- Practical experience in business pitching and development
- Networking opportunities with industry professionals
- Access to funding and investment opportunities for top projects
Students with innovative ideas in sport, fitness, technology, media, and event management are encouraged to apply.
