Celebrating 45 years as the premier sports education and training institute, the GC Foster College of Physical Education and Sport is seeking to enhance a few projects to attract more students with an ambitious target of a minimum of J$45 million.
Vishu Tolan, board chairman at the Spanish Town-based college, is adamant about the build-out of Angels as the GC Foster College Town.
“At 45, the institution will always focus on capacity building, building of relationships to foster academic development and community empowerment. This is our College Town and now more than ever, we have to engage the wider community to preserve the legacy of what the institution was founded to do; while meeting global standards,” he said at the official launch today (March 11).
Acting principal Paul Beckford was happy to report that the college was in great academic stead. He went on to say that the GC Foster College “is committed to build the capacity of those who deliver the wide range of courses and we continue to add value to the sporting community.”
“We have an exceptional plant here at this location and while there is so much more to be done, we are keen on keeping this institution in great physical shape as we continue to impact on the greatest sporting minds around. As we turn 45, now is a good time to look at what we have done, assess its impact and re-open our hearts and minds for reinvestment. This year’s goal is a minimum of J$45 million to do a few projects,” said Beckford.
JAAA president Garth Gayle, who is a past student, summarised his experience while being a student and credited a lot of what he is now, to his sojourn at the institution.
Retired Physical Education (PE) teacher Jennifer Brown will have a scholarship named in her honour.
Brown, while a student in the late 80s, exploited her journey as a student and participated in as many college activities as she could. She spent 33-and-a-half years at the St Andrew High for Girls and is enjoying a working retirement.
The 45th anniversary team has a suite of events to include lounge reopening on April 30, ‘FOSLympics’ scheduled for May 24 and a homecoming gala running from October 26 – November 1.
