You can never rule our Germany in any major football tournament and tales of their demise were dismissed today (June 19), with Die Mannschaft beating Portugal 4-2 in Munich.
Germany’s coach Joachim Low went away after his side’s defeat by France and came back with a new strategy and reinvigorated approach, to get Germany back into Euros 2020, held this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Playing with verve, purpose and some wonderful two-touch football, Germany ripped apart Portugal’s backline and went into half time 2-1 up with Portugal conceding two own goals.
It has to be said, Kai Havertz and Robin Gosens played very well and looked a threat for Germany on the break.
Although Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opening goal, he was kept quiet by Antonio Rudiger and the rest of the German defence.
Portugal’s Pepe at 38 was made to feel his advancing years today and had a torrid time keeping up with Germany’s blistering pace in attack.
Gnabry and Muller put in a good shift for Germany today and placed a marker for the rest of the tournament.

Germany next faces Hungary and should Low’s men win, may well have secured their place in the next round and survived the “Group of Death”.
