Global digital services sector continues to expand – Hill

As Jamaica continues to expand its reach in the global digital services sector, Minister of Industry Investment and Commerce Senator Aubyn Hill is reporting that the sector continues to grow and now comprises 91 local and international companies.

“I want to ensure that our people understand what the global services sector means to Jamaica. During this period, we are talking 2018 and 2013 this sector achieved substantial growth attaining a significant increase of approximately 64,000 trained professionals joining its ranks. In 2018, we had 60 entities operating in our thriving industry. Today, we can proudly declare that the sector has surged to include a total of 91 companies, 91 different companies in Jamaica,” Hill said.

He was speaking at the Global Services Association of Jamaica President’s Breakfast Forum on Tuesday, October 24, at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel in Kingston.

“These 91 operators encompassing both local and international entities are distributed across a 112 strategic sites,” he added.

Jamaica’s global digital services sector is estimated to generate earnings of over US$900 million in revenues per year and employs over 56,000 Jamaicans.
