It was a title 17 years in the making and Jamaica could not be denied from winning the gold in the women’s 4x100m relay final at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Friday (August 6).
The speedy quartet of Briana Williams, double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson got the baton around ahead of the United States and Great Britain to finish in a national record of 41.02 seconds.
Defending champions the US and Great Britain claimed the respective silver and bronze medals in 41.45s and 41.48s.
Jamaica cops its first gold in the 4x100m relay final since the iconic 2004 run by Veronica Campbell-Brown, Aileen Bailey, Tanya Lawrence and Sherone Simpson.
