Golding presents Jamaican birth certificate to clear the air

After being repeatedly lashed by the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and some Jamaicans for holding dual citizenship, which he denounced months ago, PNP President Mark Golding displayed his birth certificate during his debate with Prime Minister Andrew Holness Thursday night to show that he was born in Jamaica.
Golding was responding to Holness asking, “Are you truly a Jamaican?”
Golding’s citizenship has been under question since it was revealed that he was a British citizen. In March, Golding disclosed documents from the United Kingdom Home Office confirming his renunciation of citizenship of that country.
During the debate, Dr Holness also questioned Golding’s citizenship while questioning why Golding appears to be opposed to initiatives to effect constitutional change and remove the King of England as Jamaica’s head of state, which triggered Golding to unleash his premeditated plan and pull his birth certificate out of his jacket pocket.
“First of all, I think the Prime Minister repeated an innuendo or direct attack which has been levelled by his party on my nationality, and you know, I just wanted to make it absolutely clear that I am indeed born ya, as a Jamaican,” Golding said.
He said, for those who could not see the details, that he was born at the University Hospital of the West Indies, in the capital city of Jamaica, on July 19, 1965.
He also offered Holness a copy of his birth certificate and commented with a smirk that he hoped Holness could provide a copy of his certification from the Integrity Commission.
“But of course, you can’t do so,” Golding cheekily said.
