Leading American tech firm Google unveiled LearnLM, a suite of artificial intelligence (AI) models tailored for education based on its ChatGPT-4 competitor Gemini on Tuesday (May 14).

LearnLM is rooted in educational research and designed to make educational interactions more active, personal, and engaging.

Google is integrating LearnLM into existing platforms like Search, YouTube, and Gemini, enabling users to delve deeper into complex topics, receive personalised learning guidance, and engage more with educational content.

For instance, Google Search will soon offer simplified explanations of complex topics, allowing users to tailor information to their learning needs. On Android devices, Circle to Search will aid in solving math and physics problems, while Gemini will introduce ‘Gems‘ to provide step-by-step study guidance and interactive learning activities.

YouTube is also evolving with conversational AI tools that allow users to engage actively with educational content, enabling them to ask questions, seek explanations, and even take quizzes while watching videos.

Google Classroom is also piloting new features aimed at streamlining lesson planning for educators and tailor content to individual students’ needs.

Google has also announced that it is working on experimental tools like Illuminate, which breaks down research papers into digestible audio conversations and Learn About, a platform that integrates high-quality content with chatbot experiences to make learning more interactive.
