In a move that signifies their long friendship, Gospel artiste Gadami and dancehall artiste Mama Son have collaborated to record a track that producer Robert “Bobby” Johnson of Ubigwitus Records of New York has labeled a song to save lives.
The track, God Ah Call Yuh, has recently been released across all platforms to coincide with the shooting of the video over three days in Ocho Rios. The visuals will be released soon.
“This song is to save lives,” Johnson says. “We’re not against the bad man songs them or the scammer songs them or the gallist songs them but this song is what Jamaica needs. This is what it is all about: righteousness, truth. We want to save lives.”
Gadami, real name Paul Valentine Foster, and Mama Son, born Fernando Harris, are known relatively well in entertainment circles and are seeking a breakthrough hit.
Most people who have heard God Ah Call Yuh believe the song will not just provide the talented artistes with their first big hit but will become a household anthem because of its positive content.
Gadami, who was baptised eight years ago at the Assembly of the First Born in Ocho Rios, St Ann, wrote the lyrics and built the rhythm for the song earlier this year and invited Mama Son to collaborate. After recording the track, Mama Son took it to Johnson who liked it and decided to produce it.
“It’s a great song; it’s a message song,” says Gadami. “I know God is calling everybody, God wants to have a relationship with everybody, I know that. That is the calling for everybody.”
Meanwhile, Mama Son is happy for a revival in his career, the highlight of which has spanned many of Jamaica’s top stage shows.
“Mi do Sumfest, mi do Sting, Follow di Arrow, Spring Break, when yuh talk ’bout old show, Sashi just come back an’ mi perform ‘pon Sashi three times already. Mi pay mi dues,” says Mama Son.
The video was shot in Ocho Rios by videographer Famous and includes dancer TenX.
