The Jamaican Government has announced that the widening and dualisation of Grange Lane in St Catherine will continue during the 2023-2024 fiscal year, with an allocation of $878 million.

The sum is contained in the 2023-2024 Estimates of Expenditure, which was tabled in the House of Representatives by Dr Nigel Clarke, minister of finance and the public service, earlier this month.

The project aims to improve mobility and connectivity in the area.

The Grange Lane project is expected to reduce congestion and loss of time, improve safety, and facilitate conditions for future economic development through water infrastructure and fibre-optic ducts for broadband connectivity along the roadway.

As of December 2022, the completion of designs and drawings, award of contract for a contractor to undertake widening and dualisation of Grange Lane, and issuance of the order of commencement were achieved.

The upcoming fiscal year will see the commencement and completion of construction on the roadway, as well as the installation of 1,400 metres of fibre-optic cable. The National Works Agency will be responsible for implementing the project, with funding from the Government of Jamaica.
