An incentive cheque, valued at J$6.8 million, has been presented to the Jamaican women’s cricket team for their continued outstanding performances in regional women’s cricket, especially during the 2024 season.

In 2024, the team were crowned regional double champions, following wins in the Super50 and T20 Blaze tournaments.

The appreciation grant, a gift from the government, was presented to captain of the Jamaica Senior Women’s Cricket Team, Rashada Williams, at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Entertainment and Sport in mid-March.

Players will receive J$400,000 apiece, while each member of the management team will receive J$200,000 for supporting the cricket team.

In her remarks, portfolio minister Olivia Grange commended the members of the cricket team for their dedication and hard work in representing the country.

“We are proud of you. It is crucial that we continue to support and invest in you. It is important that we continue to support and invest in women’s sport to ensure their sustained progress, which will serve as an inspiration for generations of women athletes to come,” she said.

Minister Grange also used the occasion to commend the Jamaica Cricket Association and the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) for their continued commitment to the development of sports.

She further praised the sponsors who have contributed to the growth of cricket.

“Thank you for your unwavering support. Your investment is a vital input in our success,” she said, while encouraging the gathering to remember the power of sport.

“Sport unites, sport inspires, and it is a driver of change,” she said.
