The Government is moving to postpone the implementation of toll charges for passage along the May Pen to Williamsfield leg of Highway 2000 to offer motorists a reprieve following the impact of Hurricane Beryl.

“We recognise the immense challenges faced by the residents in the wake of Hurricane Beryl. Our priority is to support the ongoing recovery efforts and to provide some relief to those affected by delaying the implementation of the new toll,” said Prime Minister Andrew Holness in a statement on Thursday (July 25).

Motorists were scheduled to begin paying tolls on the May Pen to Williamsfield leg this month, however, it has been pushed back to August 17.

Holness says the delay will allow critical resources and attention to be directed towards aiding in the communities in the southern parishes hardest hit by Beryl. He added that this will ensure residents receive the necessary support to rebuild and recover.
