Amid the renewed concerns globally about another possible COVID-19 outbreak, the Ministry of Health and Wellness appears to be trying to revamp its beleaguered vaccination programme.

In a public announcement to citizens yesterday (January 10), the Government issued a list of vaccination sites at health care centres in all 14 parishes across the island.

“COVID-19 vaccines continue to be freely available to members of the Jamaican public and can be accessed at heath facilities island wide,” the ministry stated in its release.

The available vaccines listed are Pfizer, Sinopharm and Johnson and Johnson.

As previously reported by Our Today, Jamaica has recorded more than 150,000 COVID-19 cases, since the first reported case in March 2020.

The latest report from the health ministry states that Jamaica recorded 141 new COVID-19 cases between January 3 and January 9, 2023.

There has also been a spike in several countries globally, inclusive of China and the United States, due to the Omicron XXB.1.5 variant. Both countries have since issued travel restrictions.

Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton had indicated that the Government was not moving towards another lockdown of the country. Instead, he reiterated his request for citizens to get vaccinated against the virus. Those who are fully vaccinated were also urged to take booster shots.
