Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness is calling for banks and other financial institutions to do more to protect their customers.

“The Government will not socialise any debt and we will not socialise the failure of our banks to be prudential and to protect their customers… .

“It would send a very bad signal to the banks and investment houses that they can be negligent and expect the bank to cover their negligence. That will not happen!” Holness said.

He was speaking at the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) Regional Capital Market Conference 2023 on Tuesday (January 24) at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.
