Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange says the Government is considering hosting matches in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup set to take place next year.
Grange, in a statement on Wednesday, September 6, said that the Government sees the benefit of hosting the T20 World Cup games but is also mindful of the tremendous cost associated with such a venture.
According to the sports minister, the bid to host a few games in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is estimated to cost J$450 million, including infrastructure upgrades to match and practice venues.
She further noted that there are ongoing discussions with the Jamaica Cricket Association, which is in dialogue with Cricket West Indies and potential partners on the way forward.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played across 10 venues in the Caribbean and the United States, from June 4 to 30, 2024.
