Grange praises transformation of Spanish Town

Culture Minister Olivia Grange has lauded the transformation that is currently taking place in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

Grange who was speaking at a ceremony for the opening of Jamaican fast food franchise Island Grill’s New Brunswick Village restaurant in St Catherine on Wednesday (April 10) said: “The town has been transforming before our eyes.”

She further said “deliberate focus on developing new communities, rehabilitating existing communities, the development and maintenance of infrastructure, including healthcare facilities.”

Grange, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for St Catherine Central in which the new branch will be constructed, welcomed the investment by Island Grill in the historical town and parish.

“The new development, as the town marks 490 years since its founding, is a testament to its resilience and its ability to remake itself. Spanish Town is ripe for development,” she noted.

She said that the project demonstrates the value of partnership “with everybody working together to deliver a successful development”.

Mayor of Spanish Town, Councillor Norman Scott, called on Island Grill to engage farmers in St Catherine who produce “high quality” fruits and vegetables, so that “a mutually beneficial relationship” can be established.
