Grenadian health officials have confirmed the island’s first novel coronavirus (COVID-19)-related death on Sunday (January 3) as the island’s caseload further rises.

The Ministry of Health, in a terse statement, noted that the deceased is a 72-year-old man, who arrived on the island with his wife and grandchild on December 16.

According to the ministry, all three were tested on arrival and proceeded to observe the mandated quarantine protocols at home.

The agency plans to hold a press conference at 5:00 pm, led by Health Minister Nickolas Steele and Chief Medical Officer Dr George Mitchell to address the death and other recent developments.

As at December 30, Grenada had confirmed a total of 127 COVID-19 cases. Of the national tally, some 20 are active cases, as the island recorded 107 recoveries.
