As Hurricane Melissa tore through southern and western Jamaica, it left behind silence and separation. Communities were cut off, networks collapsed, and families went days without hearing from one another.

Among those most affected were security officers who remained on duty, protecting lives and property even while their own homes and communities were devastated.

To help families reconnect, Guardsman Group has begun installing Starlink satellite internet at offices in the hardest-hit parishes. These connection points are open and free of charge to officers, staff, their families, and members of nearby communities who need to reach loved ones, send messages, or simply let someone know they are safe.

“Our priority is people,” said Hon. Kenneth Benjamin, Executive Chairman of Guardsman Group. “This isn’t about operations, it is about giving families hope. If we can help someone tell their loved ones they’re safe, or for them to find out if their loved ones are okay, that’s what matters.”

With communications still unstable in several parishes, these Starlink sites have become vital lifelines, allowing families to reconnect, share updates, and coordinate relief.

At the same time, Guardsman has launched a donation drive to support affected families both within and beyond our organisation. Items such as food, water, blankets, clothing, and baby essentials can be dropped off at any Guardsman office island-wide.

In addition, a company-wide blood drive is being organised among Guardsman employees to support hospitals and communities treating those injured or in need of emergency care following the storm.

“As a nation, we’ve faced hardship before and always found strength in unity,” added Hon. Kenneth Benjamin. “This is not just about Guardsman, it is about Jamaica. We are part of this country’s fabric, and when our people hurt, we hurt with them. Together, we will rebuild.”

From its beginnings in 1977, Guardsman has stood alongside Jamaica through every challenge. Today, as the nation recovers from Hurricane Melissa, that commitment remains — to serve, to support, and to stand united as one community.
