Arsenal’s form this season has made the north Londoners the clear favourite to win the EPL, however, this afternoon (December 6), the midlanders Aston Villa, had something to say about that.

It looked like Arsenal were inexorably heading to eight points clear in the table when Eberexchi Eze scored in the first half hour of the game, only for the goal to be disallowed with Bukayo Saka straying offside.

Shortly afterwards, Aston Villa’s Matty Cash scored, beating David Raya in the box.

Unai Emery has built Aston Villa into a good team and, on their day, can take down anybody across Europe’s top leagues. Leon Bailey should have remained at Aston Villa and built his reputation, becoming a better player under Emery’s guidance….but that’s another story.

Come the second half, and with two changes made, Arsenal found the equaliser with a Leandro Trossard goal, his sixth for the season.

Aston Villa didn’t buckle and went toe-to-toe with Arsenal, remaining undaunted and refusing to capitulate to the Gunners like Tottenham and Bayern Munich did in recent games.

In the dying minute of the game, Emi Buendía saw to it that Villa went away with three points. Last season, Villa took 6 points from Arsenal.

“Obviously, we are extremely disappointed with the way we lost the game. But first of all, congratulations to Villa, because they are a really good side and they are really good at what they do, said Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta.

This victory sees Aston Villa placed in third position in the EPL table with 30 points.
