Guyana getting Sheraton branded two-tower hotel/residence

The Sheraton Hotels & Resorts brand has signed a deal with H-Towers Inc, a Guyanese-owned company for the development of 200-room Sheraton Hotel and a residence facility at Providence, East Bank Demerara in Guyana.

The two-tower project is set to open by 2025.

H-Towers Inc’s United States-based partners, Triwest Financial Group, Inc and Black Pearl Holding Company were also signatories to the deal.

In a press statement, the parties revealed that the project will expand the Sheraton Hotels & Resorts brand’s existing portfolio in the South American/Caribbean country.

A sod-turning ceremony will take place in the coming months for the project. The anticipated 200-room hotel will feature a mix of king and double rooms and several suites, including a Governor’s suite and a sophisticated Sheraton Club Lounge.

In addition, planned amenities for the hotel include a swimming pool, 24-hour fitness centre, specialty restaurant, meeting and conference rooms, state-of-the-art spa, and the brand’s signature bar, coffee, market concept.

Drawing on its roots as a community hub for locals and visitors alike, the Sheraton Hotels & Resorts plans to create an intuitive and holistic experience with spaces to connect, be productive and help travelers feel connected to the local community. In addition to seamless technology integration and an elevated food and beverage philosophy, the package also includes layered design balances with a fresh and modern feel that aims to make guests feel comfortable and at ease, whether working, meeting or relaxing.

The project includes a residential component comprising 224 residences that will be housed in the second tower, connecting with the hotel via a sky bridge. Construction for the two towers is slated to begin by year end with an expected completion date in 2025.

Marriott International is spearheading the Sheraton brand entry into the Guyanese market. To this end, Marriott International’s Chief Development Officer for the Caribbean and Latin America, Laurent de Kousemaeker is happy and excited to bring the brand to such an exciting destination.

For his part, Kerwin Bollers, executive director of H-Towers, has welcomed the project as being timely for Guyana’s development.

Given Guyana’s growing demand around accommodation for visitors, the project came to life when the Government of Guyana, through its Go-Invest Office, launched an Expression of Interest (EOI) in 2021 for hotel developers.
