Guyana hits 10,000 coronavirus case threshold

administratorWith 175 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 72 hours days, Guyana barrels past the 10,000 caseload mark becoming the eighth Caribbean country to do so.
According to data from the Ministry of Health, the South American nation’s cumulative tally now stands at 10,182.
It took the CARICOM member eight months from the first confirmed case in March 2020 for Guyana to hit its opening 5,000 cases later in November, however, a second 5,000 was added in just half the time.
So far, Guyana has conducted 88,562 tests, 78,380 (or roughly 88.5 per cent) have returned negative. Health officials are currently managing 1,031 active cases, as 8,922 patients have made a full recovery for the infectious disease.
With two new deaths within the last day, Guyana’s COVID-related fatalities have risen to 229.
