Writing has been on the wall for months

 Co-founder of Montego Bay based medical company, GWEST Corporation, Dr. Konrad Kirlew is now fully out of the management of the company.

The company has made a statutory filing with the Jamaica Stock Exchange, where its shares are publicly traded, indicating that Kirlew has resigned from the Board of Directors, effective March 30. Dr. Kirlew held the position of Executive Chairman until he exited that post with immediate effect in November 2020.

From then some say the writing was on the wall that Dr. Kirlew would eventually be leaving the management of the medical company outright. Wayne Wray, who is a Mentor to the Board was appointed a Director on March 9, 2023. 

He will continue to act as Chairman of the Board of Directors. The exit of Dr. Kirlew as Executive Chairman with immediate effect three years ago, resulted in several management changes at the company, which at that time was incurring heavy losses.

Dr. Kirlew had earlier indicated his intention to step down as Executive Chairman in 2020, due to extenuating personal reasons, prior to departing on a leave of absence in July of that year. On his return, he advised the board that he was unable to continue and would leave immediately instead, but would retain his directorship on the board. 

Dr. Kirlew himself had stepped into the role of CEO in 2019 on an interim basis, after a series of exits by persons hired to run the medical company, whose main asset is the GWest Centre, a commercial and medical complex in Freeport, Montego Bay. 

Marce Hayles ran the company for six months, Joy Clark for four months, and Richard Barrow for six months. GWest Corporation was formed by a group of Jamaican medical and business professionals, namely Dr Kirlew, Wayne Gentles, Dr Ladi Doonquah, Elva Williams-Richards, and Dennis and Denise Samuels.
