Shericka Jackson pulled off a rare victory over Shanuae Miller-Uibo in the 200m at the the 2021 Gyulai Istvan Memorial in Hungary where Elaine Thompson-Herah also ran a season-best time to turn the tables on compatriot Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Jackson, who for the past decade has been chasing Miller-Uibo over 200m and 400m, finally got a leg up on the Bahamian. The Jamaican came off the turn first and gradually pulled away from her life-long rival to win in a meet record 21.96. Miller-Uibo crossed the line in 22.15.

 Dafne Schippers, the 2015 world champion, was third in 22.70.

On a day of stacked fields, Thompson-Herah, the 2016 Olympic champion clocked a fast 10.71 in the 100m to defeat the Jamaican champion as well as a field that also included Marie Josee Ta Lou, Blessing Okagbare, Natasha Morrision and Michelle-Lee Ahye.

The winning time was just outside Thompson-Herah’s personal best of 10.70.

Fraser-Pryce was second in 10.84 with Ta Lou third in 10.86.

Thompson-Herah’s victory followed on the heels of Stephenie-Ann McPherson’s commanding win over 400m, cruising to victory in 49.99.

The USA’s Wadeline Jonathas was a distant second in 50.70. Lieke Klaver was third in 51.23.

The men’s 100m was won by South Africa’s Akani Simbini in a lifetime best of 9.84. Mike Rodgers was second in a season-best of 10.00 while Marvin Bracy ran 10.02 for third.

GRANT HOLLOWAY BEATS RONALD LEVY IN SPRINT HURDLES

Britany Anderson ran 12.80 to be tied for fourth with Sharika Nelvis in the 100 hurdles won by Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in 12.34, just outside her season best of 12.32.

Elvira Herman of Belarus took the runner-up spot in 12.67 and USA’s Gabrielle Cunningham was third in 12.75.

US champion Grant Holloway won his match-up with Jamaican and Commonwealth champion Ronald Levy in impressive fashion, if not time. He stormed to victory in 13.08 ahead of Spain’s Orlando Ortega, who ran a season-best 13.15 and Russia’s Sergey Shubenkov, 13.19, also a season best.

Levy, who won the Jamaican trials in 13.10 – 13.08 in the semi-finals – started well but faded to fourth in 13.25.

Janieve Russell finished third in the 400m hurdles in a season-best 53.68. The Netherlands’ Femke Bol, who ran a lifetime best 52.37 in Stockholm on Sunday, won another battle with American Shamier Little, setting a new meet record of 52.81. The American was a step behind in 52.85.
