LeBron James’ astonishing run of 1,297 straight regular-season games with at least ten points came to a halt on Thursday (December 4), and he barely blinked, because the Lakers grabbed the win regardless.

Inside Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, the game sat at 120–120 with the clock draining away.

James had only eight points and the ball in his hands, perfectly set up to chase history. Instead, he delivered a pass so quick it froze the entire arena for a heartbeat. Rui Hachimura was waiting in the corner, wide open, and he buried the shot right as the horn sounded.

The Lakers erupted. Benches cleared, arms flew, and Hachimura suddenly became the happiest man ever. The basket sealed the victory and quietly ended James’ scoring streak in the same breath.

When reporters circled him afterwards, James didn’t flinch. He wasn’t bothered about the streak slipping away because he made the play that won the game. Hachimura, riding the adrenaline of his first game winner, later said James had already told him the ball was coming his way before the final possession, so he was ready to fire, and he delivered.
