
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith, who will support Prime Minister Andrew Holness as he participates in the third European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Summit, says the Jamaican delegation will discuss several issues affecting developing nations.
In a statement on Sunday, July 16, Johnson Smith said: “It is an important meeting where we will be promoting several issues in relation to Haiti, in relation to climate change, issues with security in the region-peace and security and ensuring that we break the back of transnational crime and we work together to do that along with other issues as the EU itself also seeks to engage with like-minded countries on a matter that supports their peace and security indeed focused on the war in Ukraine.”

The minister explained that she is set to participate in bilateral engagements with EU counterparts, as well as the Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and the director general of home affairs in the EU, along with counterparts from Portugal and Colombia.
The EU-CELAC summit is set to take place in Brussels, Belgium from July 15 to 19 and continue in London, England from July 19 to 23.
The week-long trip is set to bring together leaders from the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean to discuss issues affecting the various regions and the way forward.
