Maroon 5’s lead vocalist Adam Levine, today celebrates his 43rd birthday! The American singer began his career in 1994 as the lead vocalist and guitar player for the band Kara’s Flowers. Levine later rose to popularity as the lead vocalist for the band, Maroon 5.

He is also popular on the island for being the judge to coach The Voice‘s 2013 winner, Jamaican artiste Tessanne Chin. As we celebrate Adam Levine, let us take a look at the top 8 Maroon 5 songs to add to your playlist.

8. This Love

The second track on Maroon 5’s 2002 debut album, Songs About Jane, This Love gained incredible success. Their breakthrough hit was inspired by the front man’s break-up.

7. She Will Be Loved

Another record from the group’s debut album, She Will Be Loved chronicles the life of a girl going through issues and a guy coming along to help her.

In an interview, Levine explained the inspiration behind the track.

“It’s a song I wrote about a girl and a guy that I knew who had a tumultuous, troubled relationship… . I was looking at it from an outsider’s perspective. She was not in a good place. He was a really nice person and was very nurturing and supportive of her.”

6. Locked Away

This track by St Thomas, Virgin Islands brothers, Theron and Timothy Thomas, also known as the musical duo, R City, features Levine, whose vocals are heard on the chorus of the track.

The record focuses on the anxieties and insecurities in many relationships and questions if these relationships are able to survive devastating circumstances.

5. One More Night

Released on Maroon 5’s fourth studio album Overexposed, the up-beat tune has rather dark lyrical content. Levine appears to be in a dysfunctional relationship and, although guilt-ridden, is still willing to spend ‘one more night’ .

The song was written by Levine and Texas songwriter, Savan Kotecha.

4. Moves Like Jagger

Featuring American singer Christina Aguilera, Moves Like Jagger was released in 2011 on Maroon 5’s Hands All Over album.

The song talks about Levine’s ability to impress a female with his dance moves, which are compared to The Rolling Stones’ lead vocalist, Mick Jagger.

3. Payphone

Payphone is the lead single from Maroon 5’s fourth studio album Overexposed, where Levine sings about a failed relationship. Featuring American rapper Wiz Khalifa, the track, which has no happy ending, rose to great popularity upon its release.

2. Girls Like You Remix

This acoustic approached song is the ninth track from Maroon 5’s fifth studio album, Red Blue Pills. The original was released in 2017 and the remix, featuring Cardi B, the following year.

On the track, the lead vocalist admits that he and his lover need each other in their lives while Cardi B, who adds her Bronx-flavoured verse, talks about being the life of the party and her profane past among other things.

1. Sugar

In this 2014 V track, Levine is heard singing to his lover, comparing her to sugar. Penned by Maroon 5’s front man and American record producer Dr Luke, Nicki Minaj joined the track for a remix later in 2015.
