Jamaican singer-songwriter Skip Marley today celebrates 26 years of life! The grandson of the legendary Bob Marley and son of Cedella Marley, Skip taught himself to play the piano, drums, guitar and bass.

Born in Kingston, the Marley released his first track Cry To Me back in 2015 under the Tuff Gong label.

In celebration of his earth strong, let us take a look at eight of his songs to add to your music playlist.

8. Lions

Marley, who described this track as a self-empowerment anthem, promotes inner strength and social justice.

The track was the soundtrack of the controversial 2017 Pepsi commercial starring American model Kendall Jenner, which the company pulled a day after its release following much social media backlash.

7. Calm Down

Released in 2017, Calm Down is a humble call to order and peace, between people in a world that seems to have gone crazy, because of social and political turmoil throughout many of its regions.

6. Life

Released in 2016, Life, the singer’s second single was recorded at Tuff Gong Studios. Life seemingly chronicles the singer’s experience of young love, facing the unfortunate but usual disappointment.

5. Slow Down

This groovy 2017 track which blends reggae and R&B, is about slowing down in the beautiful process of falling in love and enjoying every single moment with that special someone.

This track done by Skip and American singer H.E.R, was released on the former’s 2020 Higher Place EP.

4. That’s Not True

Featuring his uncle, Damian Marley, That’s Not True, is a message of hope and inspiration, as Skip aims to help people find positivity, even after difficult personal struggles and amid times of political and social turmoil all around the world.

3. Make Me Feel

Make Me Feel is a 2020 track that features R&B singer Ari Lennox and A-list rapper Rick Ross. In Make Me Feel, Skip highlights the love he feels for his significant other.

The song goes on to note that despite the bad times, his significant other, just from her presence, can put him in a better place.

2. Chained to the Rhythm

This 2017 track which features Marley was recorded on American singer-songwriter Katy Perry’s Witness album.

This politically charged record is a cry for society to stop living in a bubble and become more politically involved and less complacent. 

1. Vibe

Vibe, a Rykexz produced track by Skip and Popcaan, is about a woman who wants to have a good time. Skip, who in the first verse has an uncanny identical sound to his uncle, Damian Marley, keeps it strictly reggae, while Popcaan brings the dancehall flavour.

The track was released in 2021.
