Former champions Harbour View continued their fight for survival in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League with a 1-0 win over a Molynes United team that’s just above them on Sunday.
Had Molynes United won, Harbour – the 2022 champions—would have been relegated. It was a massive season-saving win that saw Harbour View draw level with Molynes on 39 points heading into the final day.
Garth Stewart headed home the winner in the 67th minute as But Harbour View remained in the relegation zone in 13th spot, while Molynes are 12th based on a better goal difference.
The odds are certainly against Harbour View being relegated, as on the final day they will face a Cavalier team fighting to make the top six playoff, while Molynes travel to a Treasure Beach team that is safe from relegation with nothing to play for but pride.
Treasure Beach made sure they will remain in the league with 2-0 win over Montego Bay United at Jarrett Park to be in 11th spot on 43 points. Dahmani Miller opened the scoring in the 49th minute before Jaheim Harris sealed the victory in the 69th minute.
It was a defeat that pushed Montego Bay off the top soot into second on 71 points based on goal difference to Mount Pleasant who whipped Dunbeholden 5-0.
Mount Pleasant moved to 71 points following goals from Warner Brown (19th), Jahe Douglas (46th, 61st), Raheem Edwards (79th) and Keanu Reid (90th). Dunbeholden remained in ninth spot on 48 points.
Cavalier strengthened their chances of making the playoffs with a 2-0 win over Tivoli Gardens at the Edward Seaga Stadium. Romarion Thomas and James Gallimre scored in the 50th and 88th minutes as Cavalier moved to fifth spot on 58 points. Tivoli Gardens are 10th on 44 points.
Racing United failed to win for the umpteenth time, drawing 1-1 with Portmore United at the Ferdie Neita Park. Peter McGregor scored for Portmore in the eighth minute but Odane Nish replied for Racing United in the 90th minute.
Racing have slipped a spot to be in sixth position on 57 points and holding onto the last playoff spot.
Portmore United remained in third spot on 63 points and are fine-tuning its preparations for the playoffs.
Arnett Gardens kept their playoff hopes alive with 6-0 thumping of the relegated Spanish Town Police. Rushike Nelson netted twice in the 14th and 48th minutes, as did Fabian Reid in the 7th and 26th minutes. Ricardo Thomas and Jaheim Thomas also got in on the act, netting in the 16th and 43rd minutes respectively.
Arnett Gardens are seventh on 55 points just two points adrift of Racing United on 57 in the fight for a playoff spot. Spanish Town are rooted to the bottom on 26 points.
