Harbour View’s Oquassa Chong (forefront) displays four fingers to indicate his fourth goal of the season, in the 2-0 victory over Dunbeholden on Saturday.

Harbour View’s centre forward Oquassa Chong is the leading goalscorer in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football competition, after finding the back of the net in all four matches so far this season.

Chong has tallied four goals, to lead the goalscoring chart ahead of Portmore United’s captain Ricardo Morris, Shaniel Thomas of Cavalier and Ricardo Messam of Vere United, who have all scored a brace. A total of 27 players have each scored a single goal.

The 20-year-old Chong started the season with a 24th-minute strike to earn Harbour View a 1-1 draw against Waterhouse and was on target again in the 14th minute for an identical 1-1 scoreline against Cavalier.

CONVERTED FROM THE SPOT AGAINST DUNBEHOLDEN

Against Mount Pleasant Football Academy in the third round, Chong opened the scoring for Harbour View in the 20th minute, then provided Lennox Russell with his 58th-minute strike as Harbour View romped to a 2-0 victory.

On Saturday, Chong, after being bundled over in the penalty box in the 32nd minute, got up to convert from the spot to start Harbour View’s victory march against Dunbeholden, with Tevin Scott completing the 2-0 margin in the 44th minute.

Morris’ two goals were against Dunbeholden, in which Portmore won 2-0 and Tivoli Gardens for a 3-1 win. Thomas netted his brace in Cavalier’s 3-0 whipping of Arnett Gardens on Saturday, a day before Messam scored his double for Vere in their 3-1 victory over Humble Lion.

Meanwhile, Mount Pleasant’s Leonard Rankine, with three bookings, has racked up the most so far in the season.
