HBO Max on Wednesday (May 27) confirmed that the streaming platform will officially become available to Caribbean customers as of June 29.
The company, in a pre-launch event, said nearly all of its extensive movie and television series will be made available for Caribbean and Latin American viewers. Additionally, all UEFA Champions League matches will be available for streaming at no extra cost to Mexican and Brazilian subscribers.
“There is nothing more powerful than a good story, that’s our north star at HBO Max,” said Tomás Yankelevich, chief content officer of general entertainment at WarnerMedia Latin America.
According to Luis Durán, HBO Max Latin America general manager, subscription prices between $3 and $6 will be “aggressively” lower than their counterparts in the United States and the company attempts to target over 100 million new customers.
“Latin America has 100 million TV households. Of these, only a small percentage enjoy HBO today. If we want to reach the 100 million households, the first thing we have to do is to ask how much these homes can pay,” he explained at Wednesday’s pre-launch event.
HBO Max, the video-on-demand streaming service owned by AT&T via the WarnerMedia Direct subsidiary, was launched last May as a direct competition to Netflix Inc, Hulu and Amazon’s Prime Video platforms.
Among its extensive library of films, HBO Max’s boasts classic Warner Bros. movie franchises such as Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings and Matrix, or DC universe hits such as Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
HBO Max will also screen iconic television titles such as Friends and The Big Bang Theory as well as iconic HBO original series The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, and Sex and the City.
