As the country struggles to contend with rising COVID-19 case counts courtesy of a third coronavirus wave, the Ministry of Health and Wellness is now calling for retired doctors and nurses to assist.

Retired health professionals are being asked to render their assistance to the health sector, as the country is met with a surge in COVID-19 cases made worse, by increasing hospitalisations and virus-related deaths.

The health ministry’s call comes as the country recorded its highest COVID-19 positivity rate to date on Monday (August 23) of 48.7 per cent and its highest daily virus caseloads on Sunday (August 22) of 879.

Doctors and nurses interested in lending a helping hand are being asked to contact the health ministry at www.moh.gov.jm/hire.

Meanwhile, the health ministry continues to appeal to all Jamaicans 12 years and older to get vaccinated.

To become vaccinated, members of the public are encouraged to make their appointments online at https://www.moh.gov.jm or call the Vaccination Call Centre at 888-ONE-LOVE (888-663-5683).

Once persons have received their appointment confirmation, they are to visit their vaccination site on time and with their tax registration number (TRN) and government-issued identification or letter from a Justice of the Peace.

There are no appointment requirements for mobile vaccination sites, which are also being run islandwide. However, persons are being asked to turn up with their government-issued identification.
