Heart Month is being endorsed by Miss Jamaica World 2022, Shanique Singh.

Singh, who is the Heart Foundation of Jamaica ambassador, spoke at the launch of Heart Month 2023 today (January 31) at the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel in St Andrew.

In her message, she said that Heart Month is a great opportunity for people to come together and raise awareness on the importance of regular heart health checks and preventative care.

“Checking your heart does not only mean getting your regular tests and screenings done. It also means to check yourself, reflect on the choices that you make that affect your health such as your diet, your level of physical activity and how much you’re drinking or smoking. Preventative measures are always way better and way cheaper than treating and curing,” she said.

Singh spoke about identifying stresses, triggers and creating safe and stress-free spaces.

“Another very important and overlooked point is checking in with our mental health,” she continued.

“Let us make the most of Heart Month, let us spread the word about taking time to check in with our doctors and reflect on our lifestyle choices. Let us all play our part and check our heart so that our communities, families, and friends can all live healthier and happier lives,” she urged.

February will see a host of activities take place through the efforts of the HFJ as they bring awareness to the Jamaican public to “know their numbers” and reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease and NCDs by living a heart-healthy lifestyle.
