Eight hours after noxious smoke first billowed from the Riverton City Landfill in St Andrew, the fire is still raging.
Among the challenges for Jamaica Fire Brigade personnel at the scene, strong winds have made the blaze difficult to control.
It is unclear at this time if the fire at the disposal site would be extinguished tonight as previously anticipated by Audley Gordon, executive director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA).
