The People’s National Party (PNP) said it is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Councillor Marjorie McLeod-McFarlane.

McLeod-McFarlane was the Jamaica Labour Party’s councillor for the Aenon Town Division in Clarendon Northern.

McLeod-McFarlane died at approximately 1:00 pm on Sunday, September 1. The cause of death was not disclosed.

“On behalf of the People’s National Party, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Councillor McLeod-McFarlane’s family, friends, and colleagues within the Jamaica Labour Party,” PNP General Secretary Dr Dayton Campbell said in a press release.

“We also express our sympathies to the people of the Aenon Town Division who have lost their representative.”

The PNP said McLeod-McFarlane’s contributions to her division and the wider Clarendon community will be remembered.

“We stand in solidarity with all who mourn her loss during this difficult time,” it said.

The PNP’s tribute comes in the wake of Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressing condolences at the passing of the councillor.

“Our hearts are broken even as we reflect with gratitude on her dedicated service, both to the party and to her constituents,” Holness wrote on social media. “I send heartfelt condolences to her loved ones, friends and constituents.”

The JLP won the Aenon Town Division thanks to McLeod-McFarlane’s victory in the last Local Government Election.
