Winston ‘Tony Tuff’ Morris, a reggae legend known for his notable sound and smooth lyrics, died on Saturday, April 20, at 69.

Tony Tuff began his career in 1969 with The African Brothers. After disbanding, he resumed solo in the late 1970s, releasing albums and self-produced singles. Tuff collaborated with Yabby You on his 1980 and 1981 album Presenting and worked on sound systems like Lees Unlimited and Henry “Junjo” Lawes’ Volcano system.

His big break came in the 1990s with Girl I’ve Got To Get You, which became a staple in reggae music spins.

Tuff also enjoyed an expanded touring schedule in the early part of the decade, doing multiple stops in Europe, Canada, and the United States.

Spanning multiple decades, Tuff’s contribution to reggae music will continue to be valued, as he lives on through his timeless music.
