The HerFlow Foundation has been awarded a Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) grant valued at over J$2.5 million from the Canadian High Commission in Jamaica.
This grant will support the expansion of HerFlow’s flagship initiative, the Live SAFE College Tour, which provides essential life skills and resources to college students across Jamaica.
The CFLI, an initiative under Global Affairs Canada, supports small-scale, high-impact projects in developing countries that align with Canada’s global thematic priorities.
The program empowers local organisations like HerFlow Foundation to implement innovative projects that promote sustainable community development. By selecting the LIVE SAFE College Tour for funding, the CFLI is also deepening bilateral relations between Canada and Jamaica through support for civil society.
HerFlow Foundation’s LIVE SAFE College Tour was created to address critical gaps in traditional education and equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for navigating key challenges in life. The tour will feature workshops on sexual and reproductive health, financial literacy, conflict resolution, mental health, stress management, and responsible social media behaviour, providing a comprehensive approach to student empowerment.
Founder and Executive Director of HerFlow, Shelly-Ann Weeks, expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership and the opportunities it brings: “This is the third time we are executing the Live SAFE College Tour, and we are especially thrilled that we will be able to expand the offerings thanks to this generous grant of over J$2.5 million. Based on feedback from previous tours, we will be adding new workshops on financial literacy, mental health, and stress management to better meet the needs of the students.”
The tour will run from November 2024 to February 2025 and will engage approximately 2,000 students across 10 colleges. In addition to the educational workshops, students will receive personal care products and other resources aimed at supporting their overall well-being.
This CFLI grant will enable HerFlow to enhance its impact on the lives of young Jamaicans, equipping them with the necessary tools to make informed decisions and lead safer, more empowered lives.
