Actor Jonathan Majors and actress Meagan Good revealed their engagement during the EBONY Power 100 Gala on Sunday, November 17 at NYA Studios West in Los Angeles, California, USA.

The couple has faced public scrutiny in recent months and had to prove to the world that the love between them is genuine. Their engagement comes amid reports that Good has been financially supporting Majors after his career downturn.

Majors was arrested in March 2023 on charges of strangulation, assault, and harassment involving his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. He was later convicted of third-degree reckless assault and harassment. Following the allegations, Majors lost management representation and several acting roles.

In a recording presented during his trial, Majors is heard telling his ex-girlfriend Jabbari that she should emulate figures like Coretta Scott King or Michelle Obama. He invoked the names of these respected black women to suggest the qualities he expected a white woman to possess to stand by him and be worthy of his partnership.

Good, who finalised her divorce from Pastor DeVon Franklin in June 2022, has largely kept her relationship with Majors private. However, the couple’s dynamic has raised concern among some fans.

Majors’s engagement announcement drew applause at the gala which celebrates black excellence across industries. For Majors, the moment may be the start of a rebrand during personal and professional challenges.

While neither Good nor Majors has publicly addressed the reports about their financial arrangement, the engagement has ignited widespread conversation online.
