Jamaican athletes Jaydon Hibbert and Kerrica Hill did not receive the World Athletics’ award for Male and Female Rising Star of the Year.

The 17-year-olds were nominated for the awards back in October of this year, when they were recognised for outstanding performances throughout the athletic season.

Hill had an amazing season, walking away as the World under-20 100m hurdles champion with a championship record and a personal best time of 12.77.

Her personal best also made her the fastest female in the under-20 100m hurdles this year and is a world under-18 best.

Unfortunately, she was not able to secure the win for the annual award.

After a tedious voting process, it was Adriana Vilagos, the World U20 Javelin throw champion from Serbia who won the award for Female Rising Star of the year.

Hill’s fellow Jamaican athlete, Hibbert, also missed out on the award for the male category, with Erriyon Knighton from the United States taking home the award.

Knighton is the World Championships 200m bronze medalist who many have compared to sprint legend Usain Bolt.

Hibbert was nominated for his championship record and lifetime best jump of 17.27m, which gave him the gold at the World U-20 Championships in Cali, Colombia in August.

Though they were not able to secure the win, their contributions to Jamaica’s track and field team are greatly appreciated.

A job well done to Hill and Hibbert, the best is yet to come.
