It was a great night at the Cherry Gardens residence of the Mexican Ambassador to Jamaica, Juan Gonzales Mijares.

He put on a fantastic party, Mariachi band and all to celebrate the 214th anniversary of the Independence of Mexico.

The tequila was flowing and Ambassador Juan Gonzales Mijares was a most gracious host.

Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Karina Johnson-Smith said: “It was an honour and a pleasure to celebrate with Ambassador Juan Gonzales Mijares, the Mexican and diplomatic communities, the 214th Anniversary of Independence of the United Mexican States. Our cooperation and bonds of friendship continue to be strong, as are levels of investment. We look forward to continuing to build on these already strong platforms between our two countries. Viva!”

Well said Senator, and cheers to Mexico.

“It happened in Monterrey, a long time ago

I met her in Monterrey, in old Mexico

Stars and steel guitars

And luscious lips as red as wine

Broke somebody’s heart

And I’m afraid that it was mine.”

Frank Sinatra did say it happened in Monterrey.

Our Today was there among the revelry, and we bring you these photos.

Viva Mexico!
