Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness has extended warm congratulations to Andy Burnham, MP, on his appointment as prime minister of the United Kingdom.
“Jamaica and the United Kingdom share a valued and longstanding partnership, strengthened by the bonds between our people, our shared history and our commitment to working together on matters of mutual importance,” Holness said.
He also detailed that Jamaica looks forward to continued engagement and cooperation between the two nations as they build on this strong relationship.
“I wish Prime Minister Burnham every success as he undertakes this important responsibility and as he serves the people of the United Kingdom,” Holness added.
Burnham’s appointment was confirmed on Monday as he met King Charles III at Buckingham Palace. Becoming the United Kingdom’s seventh premier in a decade, he pledged to end the political instability that has plagued the country and promised to instigate major change.
Burnham replaces Keir Starmer, who was ousted just two years after winning a landslide election victory amid ongoing gains by populist forces.
