Prime Minister Andrew Holness says Jamaica remains “consistent in its support for the universal respect and adherence to the principles of international law and respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty of all nations”.

Holness was speaking at the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) 80th annual conference held at the National Arena in Kingston on Sunday, November 26.

“We condemn all forms of terrorism and we support the right of nations to defend themselves and pursue their security while preserving the rights of innocent civilians to live in peace and dignity,” he stressed.

The government recently faced backlash for missing a United Nations General Assembly vote on a resolution calling for a “humanitarian truce” in the Isreal-Hamas War.

More than 11,000 persons have died as a result of the conflict that began on October 7.

The prime minister also expressed concern at the rising human cost of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and welcomed the current pause in hostilities.

“We urge parties to seek a permanent solution and we remain convinced that this can only be achieved by negotiating a two-state solution, enabling the Palestinians and the Israelis to live securely in peace and dignity,” he added.
