Prime Minister Andrew Holness has been presented with the 2022 David P Richardson Jr International Nation Builders Award by the National Black Caucus of State Legislators.

The award ceremony took place on Friday (December 2), with Holness sharing the news on his social media platforms the following day.

In his caption for all posts, Holness expressed his gratitude for being conferred with the international award.

“It was a great honour to have been selected as this year’s international recipient by such an auspicious group of persons dedicated to advancing the welfare of black and minority groups through advocacy, democracy, effective representation and civic engagement,” he captioned a photo of himself receiving the award.

He also expressed thanks to the organisers of the event and congratulated awardees in other categories.

Holness joins a list of prominent world leaders who are also recipients of the award.

These include Nana Akufo-Addo President of Ghana, former United States (US) presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, and the current US vice president, Kamala Harris.

The award is dedicated to David P Richardson Jr, Pennsylvania representative who lobbied against gang violence in youths, turning his work into a political career. He died at the age of 47 from a heart attack.

The National Black Caucus of State Legislators is an American organisation that highlights the work of black government officials who strive to make the lives of the minority better through legislation and other methods.
