Prime Minister Andrew Holness is urging Jamaicans to take greater responsibility for their own health and take the necessary measures to protect themselves against infectious diseases.

Holness made the call during the handover of sanitisation and hygiene supplies on Tuesday (January 18), valued at $10.5 million, to the public health system by Konnexx Services Limited.

“Take [your] personal health and healthcare seriously,” he said.

The supplies were handed over to the prime minister and Juliet Cuthbert Flynn, state minister in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, by Dean Nevers, founder and managing director at Konnexx Services Limited.

Cuthbert Flynn urged Jamaicans to “practise the infection prevention and control measures to safeguard against these illnesses”.

She further said: “With this donation comes a timely reminder about the importance of preventative measures. We see the [COVID-19 infection] numbers going up, and so we need to continue to ensure that we are protecting ourselves.”

The state minister also expressed gratitude for the donation by Konnexx, noting that the partnership will assist in improving service delivery in the public health system.

The supplies will be distributed to 26 hospitals to help prevent the spread of bacterial infections.
