The US Embassy in Kingston is warning Jamaicans against overstaying their visas, the consequences of which could balloon ‘far beyond’ losing the privilege to travel to the United States.
The embassy, in a post on X.com on Tuesday (March 18), said offending parties face a permanent ban and even criminal prosecution.
Amid the ongoing anti-immigration stance by the Donald Trump administration, the embassy dismissed what it called the “honest mistake” excuse often peddled by travellers when they are caught.
“Consular officers have full access to your immigration history and will know about [your] past violations,” the embassy tweeted.
