Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade have officially appointed Bindley Sangster II as Jamaica’s honorary investment advisor (HIA) for the state of Georgia in the United States.

Sangster has been tasked with promoting Jamaican investment opportunities in Georgia and facilitating business connections to attract investment to the island.

In announcing the appointment, JAMPRO and the foreign affairs ministry noted that Sangster brings a large business network and ranging business acumen to the HIA initiative.

He is the CEO of Sangster’s Coffee, has previously worked with Panasonic Avionics Corporation and is a member-at-large of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, Atlanta.

The grandson of the late Sir Donald Sangster, Jamaica’s second prime minister, Sangster said he views the HIA role as adhering to his grandfather’s ideals of service to Jamaica.

A veteran of the United State Air Force and a member of the Advisory Committee of the Aviation Institute of Maintenance, he also works to identify opportunities for students within the aviation industry and to create specialised training programmes.

As Jamaica’s HIA, Sangster is expected to use his wealth of knowledge and network to forge linkages and connections between the State of Georgia and the Jamaican business landscape, as well as assist potential investors with navigating both markets to generate more investment interest in Jamaica.

In a statement today, Phillips said the clarification was necessary following the JUTC’s announcement that it was abandoning its failed Express Service (610Ex) route to Ocho Rios and converting it into a regular Kingston to Ocho Rios route. He pointed to Transport Authority regulations, which require Origin and Destination surveys as well as seat assessments before a rural stage carriage licence can be issued to an operator for rural routes.
