Speaker of the House of Representatives, Juliet Holness, accompanied by the Clerk to the Houses, Colleen Lowe left the island for a working visit to Canada.

They are participating in the 22nd ParlAmericas Plenary Assembly and the 10th Gathering of the Open Parliament Network, being held from May 18-22 in Ottawa, Canada under the theme, “Parliamentary Leadership for Shared Prosperity: Advancing Trade, Innovation, and Security in a Changing World.”

Speaker Holness will participate in high-level dialogues and parliamentary discussions focused on hemispheric and regional trade, open parliament initiatives, sustainable development, youth engagement, and strengthening democratic institutions. She is also scheduled to hold a courtesy call with Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada, Francis Scarpaleggia to discuss parliamentary cooperation between Jamaica and Canada.

Commenting on the event, Mrs Holness says, “Jamaica’s participation in the ParlAmericas Assembly reflects our continued commitment to strengthening democratic governance and advancing regional cooperation. These discussions are especially important as we work collectively to address shared challenges and build resilient and sustainable societies.”

The delegation is expected to return to Jamaica on May 24, 2026.
